The 1535° Creative Hub recently hosted Schëppe Siwen at the Hangar for a six-day residency.
This iconic folk-punk band from Luxembourg shared their journey, inspirations and experience at the Hangar with us.
A band rooted in Luxembourgish tradition
Schëppe Siwen, which translates to "Seven of Spades, " is a folk-punk band from Luxembourg. Their name pays tribute to the Luxembourgish tradition of village fairs and their renowned card lotteries, where the seven of spades always won the grand prize.
Active for over a decade, they blend the raw energy of punk with the richness of folk traditions. With four studio albums, a live album and performances across Europe, they have earned a reputation for their electrifying live shows.
Music that blends freedom and tradition
Schëppe Siwen’s music celebrates freedom, community, and life’s stories. The band combines traditional instruments such as the accordion, trumpets, fiddle and flute with the untamed energy of punk.
"This style came to us naturally. It reflects our cultural roots and rebellious spirit."
They describe their music as "folk-punk" or sometimes "Luxembourgish Rebel Folk" a dynamic, heartfelt genre designed to get people dancing.
Schëppe Siwen’s unique sound is the result of a collective effort. By blending acoustic and electric instruments, they layer melodies and rhythms to create a distinctive identity. Each band member brings their own influences, enriching the depth and diversity of their music.
Inspiring encounters
The band draws inspiration from groups they’ve encountered at festivals and shows. These connections have been a source of motivation, showing them that anything is possible and encouraging them to dream bigger.
A rewarding residency
Choosing the Hangar for their residency was a natural decision.
"We chose the 1535° Creative Hub, particularly the Hangar, for its reputation as a creative hub that supports innovative projects. The facilities and atmosphere were perfect for refining our new show."
The band learned about the Hangar through recommendations from the local music community.
"The experience was incredibly rewarding. The residency allowed us to experiment, focus on details and further develop both our sound and our performance."
The professional environment and support provided by the Hangar made a significant difference to their work.
